Mumbai City FC notched a thrilling 4-3 away win over FC Goa at the Fatorda stadium on Sunday in the Indian Super League (ISL).
A brace from Ferran Corominas and a strike from Manuel Lanzarote was not enough for the Gaurs as Thiago Santos, Everton Santos, Achille Emana and Balwant Singh scored for the Islanders.
Sergio Lobera decided to field the same eleven that defeated Kerala Blasters 2-1 a week ago. New signing Mark Sifneos was named on the bench. Golden Boot contender Ferran Corominas operated as the lone striker.
For Mumbai, Lucian Goian was unavailable due to injury. Leo Costa and Raju Gaikwad were also absent with Abinash Ruidas and Sehnaj Singh on the bench. In came Nascimento Rozario, Sahil Tavora, Zakeer Mundampara and Sanju Pradhan as Guimaraes rung in the changes.
Manuel Lanzarote and Corominas combined well in the early exchanges and but Mohammed Ali was required to block Everton Santos' early effort for Mumbai City. The deadlock was broken in the 34th minute when Corominas latched on to the rebound from Mandar Rao Dessai's attempt on goal and buried it in the back of the net, scoring his 11th goal of the season.
Mumbai City replied soon as Balwant Singh found Emana inside the box who passed it for Thiago. He pulled the trigger and the ball took a touch off Everton Santos and lodged in the back of the net.
However, Lanzarote restored the hosts' lead going into the break after tapping in from close range after Mandar drew the goalkeeper Amrinder Singh towards him before squaring the ball.
There was drama in the second half as Goan defender Seriton Fernandes was given the marching orders after he received a second yellow card for a foul on Everton Santos.
Amrinder Singh then came to Mumbai's rescue as he pulled off an incredible save to deny Lanzarote in the 50th minute. And Mumbai were awarded a penalty for Ali's foul on Everton that was converted by Emana in the 56th minute.
Balwant and Thiago then went on to miss several chances for Mumbai.
Everton then gave Mumbai the lead by scored from the rebound after Kattimani saved Balwant's strike on goal in the 70th minute. FC Goa equalised soon enough after Coro was sent through by Ahmed Jahouh eight minutes later and the striker buried a finish past Amrinder.
However, Balwant, who got past Mandar, popped up with the winner as Mumbai City completed the double over FC goa.
With this win Mumbai went fifth on the table just two points behind FC Goa who continue to be in the fourth position.
